La Cité des Cabanes

Camp Location

VILLAGE DES ENFANTS DE MOULÈS (Base Camp).
Located on top of a tree-covered hill, at the border of the "Causse de Larzac", our camp is a real Medieval village built by farmers and shepherds in the early 15th century. Isolated, it has kept its authenticity and charm through the centuries, with its traditional architecture, its stables, its communal oven, and its typical Medieval passages.

Children and Counselors sleep in bungalow tents (5 to 6 beds) on cement floors, with lights, beds and closets. The tents are located in the woods at the border of the village, in the shade!

Shower facilities and also plenty of rooms for activities including a small library, and a swimming pool are available on site at the village.

Theme

Arriving at the ideally chosen site (big trees, rocks), the children are going to receive will receive their instructions for their mission to build their huts …!
From an existing structure of platforms settled in the trees, 2 meters from the ground and accessible by ladders, interconnected with bridges, campers will be able to freely and safely climb the trees and build their huts.

• Campers will be divided into teams and each team will have 2 or 3 days to create its hut using all the same materials and equipment (nets, ropes etc…)
• A specific name will be dedicated to every team and every hut
• The teams will build their huts separately but will be framed together into a small community of huts

Together they will form"LA CITE DES CABANES "
(the Community of Huts)

• Construction:
The first few days of the camp will be dedicated to the construction of different kinds of huts using all the natural materials at their disposal and all the elements of the site (trees, rocks, natural inclination of the ground). Bridges, decks, roads or nets, will connect the huts together into a small community.

A specific theme will be dedicated to each hut: "The Living-Room", " The Sleeping Hut", “La Cantine”, "The Library", "The Secret Hide Out" etc. …

Our camp counselors will be particularly watchful towards the fact that the children smoothly become integrated into this natural living environment.

• Interior Design:
Campers will design and build tables, benches and other pieces of furniture for their ‘village’. The interior components of each hut will be specifically designed to provide the specific necessities which will allow them to be able to actually stay overnight for a day or a longer period of time if the chose to. (this will be an option depending on their decision, motivation and weather conditions) To be self sufficient they will build reservoirs to recover rain water, hammocks, summer beds, swings will be installed.

• Renewable Energies Workshop:
This workshops will be organized in partnership with a professional counselor from the Association " Découverte Causse Nature " who is going to teach the children how to create different installations using solar and wind energy to provide electricity for the village. For a Cantine” (kitchen/restaurant) they will learn to build a natural oven in the ground using rocks and clay. A great way to bake bread and potatoes!

• Discovery of the Fauna and Flora :
Nature by itself is a tremendous encyclopedia. An opened book from which the children will study the local flora and fauna, under the supervision of specialized counselors. They will learn how to recognize footprints from different animals, discovering their feeding posts and hide-outs…They will observe nature, get to know the forest with all its plants, trees, and many flowers (like orchids, famous in the region).

• Nature Art Workshop and Artistic Installations:
With the help of their camp counselors, the children will learn about natural art and they will be free to express themselves in their own work of art using materials from their surroundings (pebbles, wood, rocks, flowers).

• " Adventure Trail" in Saint Rome of Tarn,
• Initiation to Rock climbing (These two activities will be supervised by a professional insctructor. )
• Treasure hunts and camping trips,
• Swimming pool at the base Camp,
• Dance parties and birthdays parties..
• Evening get together ’Veillées’, story telling, tales and legends, astronomy,

Notes

10 days Camp Session:
- Construction and arrangement (development) of huts: 3 days
- " Renewable Energies Workshop " : 1 day
- Nature Art and artistic Installations : 1 day
- Adventure Trail : 1 session
The other days will be planned according to the choice of the children.

20 days Camp Session:
- Construction and arrangement (development) of huts: 6 days
- " Renewable Energies Workshop " : 2 days
- Nature Art and artistic Installations : 2 days
- Adventure Trail or Initiation to Rock climbing 2 sessions
The other days will be planned according to the choice of the children.
